President Jokowi Expresses Appreciation to Local Gov’t for Promoting Tenun in Jembrana
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has expressed ppreciation to the local government of Jembrana regency supported by provincial government of Bali for their effort to develop traditional woven fabric called tenun and songket in their region.
The President made the statement after inspecting Jembrana Tenun Center on Thursday (02/02).
“I would also like to really appreciate the effort made by the regent and supported by Governor of Bali in promoting tenun and songket by developing the existing small industries that produce tenun and songket,” President Jokowi said.
The President also considered that the effort can encourage development in creative industry, especially handicraft industry.
Moreover, the regional government, he added, has given a directive to officials/employees of the Government, private companies, and other institutions/organizations to wear Balinese traditional fabric every Tuesday, and traditional outfit every Thursday, which is set in governor’s regulation.
“This will encourage local-based creative industry. I really appreciate it,” he said.
The Head of State also expressed appreciation to the people of Jembrana regency in his first visit to the regency.
“I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation on the warm greetings of the people and also the Regent of Jembrana regency during my first visit in Jembrana,” he said.
Cited from the official website of Jembrana regency Kabupaten Jembrana, the Jembrana Tenun Center located at Sudirman Street was initially a cargo terminal.
The center, which was established with Bali province’s Special Financial Aid (BKK). is expected to accommodate all tenun products and micro, small, and medium enterprises’ products in Jembrana regency.
The Tenun Center inaugurated by Jembrana Regent I Nengah Tamba on December last year is also the only tenun center in Bali that provides a place for waving the tenun fabric. (RF/UN)(AW/HD/EP)
