President Jokowi Expresses Condolences for Passing of Election Officers

9 meiPresident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has expressed gratitude for the successful simultaneous elections held last April.

“I thank all regional heads for the hard work and support so the elections ran smoothly,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at the Opening of the 2019 National Development Planning Conference (Musrenbangnas) at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (9/5).

On that occasion, on behalf of the nation and the people, President Jokowi also expressed his deepest condolences over the death of Polling Stations Working Committee (KPPS) officers when carrying out their duties during and after the elections. “May their soul rest in peace. Aamiin ya rabbal alamiin,” the President said.

For the record, based on data from the General Election Commission (KPU), until Saturday (4/5) 440 officers died and 3,788 were sick due to fatigue and exhaustion for working non-stop during elections period.

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati has issued letter number S-316/KMK.02/2019 on the Government’s decision to provide financial compensation to families of injured/dead election officers, amounting of Rp36 million for deceased officers, Rp30.8 million for permanent disability officers, Rp16.5 million and Rp8.50 million for seriously and moderately injured officers respectively.
