President Jokowi Expresses Condolences for Sriwijaya Plane Crash
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has expressed his condolences for crash of Sriwijaya Air Plane en route from Jakarta to Pontianak.
“I, on behalf of the Government and all Indonesian people, would like to express my deep condolences on this tragedy,” the President said on Sunday (10/1) at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java.
Since last Saturday afternoon, the President has received a report from Minister of Transportation regarding the accident.
“Yesterday afternoon I ordered Minister of Transportation, Head of the Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency), assisted by the TNI (Indonesian National Defense Forces) and the Polri (Indonesian National Police), to carry out search and rescue operations as quickly as possible for the victims,” he said.
The Government, the President added, is doing its best to find and rescue the victims. “We pray together so that the victims can be found,” President Jokowi said.
The President went on to say that he had ordered the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to conduct an investigation on the accident.
In the meantime, President Jokowi Widodo also said in his twitter account that he continues to monitor the development of the search and rescue operations. The President also offers prayers for families and relatives of the passengers and flight crew. (FID/UN) (RI/MMB)
