President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (09/06) expressed condolences over the passing of Indonesian economist and politician Faisal Basri.

The President made his statement following the inauguration of Djuanda Overpass in Sidoarjo regency, East Java province.

“Innalillahi wa innailaihi rojiun. I, along with all Indonesian people, express my most sincere condolences over the passing of Mr. Faisal Basri,” he said, adding that Faisal Basri was critical of government policies and detailed in addressing his views through on-the-ground data he obtained.

“He was able to correct unfit government policies. In my opinion, it was a great thing,” he said.

For the record, Faisal Basri took his last breath at the age of 65 on September 5 Thursday, at around 03.50 Western Indonesian time, at Mayapada Hospital in Kuningan, Jakarta. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/ABD) (DH/MUR)
