President Jokowi, First Lady Perform Eid Prayer at Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Surakarta

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi performed Eid al-Fitr prayers 1444 Hijri at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Surakarta City, Central Java province, Saturday (04/22).

The President, along with Ibu Iriana, their son Kaesang Pangarep and his wife, arrived at the mosque at 06.05 Western Indonesia Time.

On that occasion, the imam of the prayer was K.H. Agus Ma’arif, the muezzin was K.H. Maksum Ahmad Kamal and the khatib was K.H. Abdul Karim Al-Hafidz.

K.H. Abdul Karim Al-Hafidz delivered a sermon titled “The Spirit of Eid al-Fitr to Strengthen Solidarity of the People of the Nation”. In his sermon, the khatib explained that zakat (mandatory tithes) and fasting in the month of Ramadan have spiritual and social dimensions and strengthen the solidarity in communities.

The khatib also said that humans are creatures that always need each other, so they must have mutual cooperation and help each other.

“Human cannot live alone. Thus, there must be mutual cooperation and mutual giving so that the gap between the rich and the poor can be eliminated, and solidarity can be fostered with good relationships,” the khatib said.

Having performed the Eid prayers, at around 07.30 Western Indonesia Time, President Jokowi and Ibu Iriana returned to their residence. The President also greeted the people performing the Eid prayer at the mosque.
