President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Ibu Iriana, on Thursday (23/7), virtually greeted Indonesian children and sent a special video message on the 2020 National Children’s Day aimed at fostering concern for the protection of the children.

In the video, the President and the First Lady shared their story on how the smiles of Indonesian children energized them. “Every time I and Ibu Iriana visit the regions, be it Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Papua, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, anywhere in the country, there is one thing that always makes me and Ibu Iriana enthusiastic about working, which is seeing the smiles of Indonesian children,” the two said.

In the video, the President and the First Lady said that both of them felt very happy to greet children from all over the country, even though it must be done virtually. The Covid-19 pandemic that currently hit the country, according to the President, requires all to limit activities outside their homes.

“Children, there is currently a coronavirus pandemic. But I know you certainly can’t wait to go to school, can’t wait to play with your friends, can’t wait to meet your grandparents who are far away. This morning Ibu Iriana wants to give a message to the children. So, what’s the message?” the President said.

“Be disciplined in washing your hands after playing, after learning, and after doing activities. Be disciplined to wear a mask when leaving the house and avoid the crowds wherever you are,” the First Lady said.

Both of them reminded the Indonesian children to be disciplined in implementing health protocols by wearing masks, keeping a safe distance, avoiding crowds, and often washing their hands. Adaptation of these new habits must always be done as an effort to avoid the transmission and spread of the coronavirus.

In addition, the President and the First Lady also invited Indonesian children to keep their enthusiasm for learning from home and to pray for the Covid-19 pandemic to end so that they can get back to school to meet their teachers and friends. (BPMI/EN)
