President Jokowi: G20 Presidency Must be Used to Contribute to Equitable Global Prosperity

The Government will optimize the trust that it has gained to hold the G20 Presidency and will use it contribute to global prosperity that is more evenly distributed, just, and inclusive so the world is stronger in facing the crisis and climate change.  The statement was made by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo when delivering his remarks virtually at the 109th anniversary of Indonesia’s Islamic Organization Muhammadiyah from the State Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (18/11).

President Jokowi also affirmed that Indonesia will continue to contribute to global peace and tolerance.

“As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world that upholds the values of Pancasila (state ideology) and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (unity in diversity), we can be the world’s reference. Progressive Islam and moderate Islam (wasatiyyah) that are implemented by the Muhammadiyah are not only important for Indonesia, but also relevant for the world,” he added.

President Jokowi further said that Indonesia is the first developing country that has the opportunity and honor to hold the G20 Presidency.

“We have to be grateful that Indonesia is trusted to hold the G20 Presidency. It is a global recognition showing that Indonesia is capable [to hold the presidency],” he remarked.

For the record, on 31 October 2021, President Jokowi officially received the G20 Presidency from Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

Indonesia’s G20 Presidency will officially start from 1 December 2021 to 30 November 2022. During the Presidency, Indonesia will host the G20 Summit and a number of international meetings.

Under the theme “Recover Together, Recover Stronger”, Indonesian G20 Presidency aims to encourage joint efforts to recover together, grow stronger, and be more sustainable. (DND/UN) (AP/MMB)
