President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo stated his latest directives on the Acceleration of the Covid-19 Pandemic Handling during the Limited Meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (13/7).

Some of his directives, as stated by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, were:

First, for all regions, especially those in the area with a high rate of transmission, to work harder and involve all components of the community. “Including those areas that still have a high fatality rate,” Muhadjir stated.

Second, the President also emphasized the importance of more intensive dissemination of information and education using local language and symbols so that they are easily understood by the public.

“Therefore, the involvement of scientists, especially social scientists from the study of anthropology, sociology, demography, and of course universities must also take parts, as well as religious leaders, so that the dissemination of information on Covid-19 response can truly reach the community,” Muhadjir said.

Third, the President highlighted the lack of public discipline to comply with health protocols.

“Due to this, earlier the President hinted the need of sanctions for violations of the health protocols. The legal standing will still be discussed further by the related ministries/institutions,” Muhadjir said.

“The public needs to understand that what the President has said indicates the very high risk still faced by Indonesia, the Indonesian nation, against the Covid-19,” he stated. (TGH/EN)
