President Jokowi: Gov’t Employees to be Relocated to Nusantara Once Facilities Are Ready
Relocation of state civil apparatus to the new capital of Nusantara will be under way only after all necessary facilities are ready, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.
According to the President, both basic and supporting infrastructure in Nusantara are still under development.
“I believe we, including myself, should relocate only after everything is fully ready. The relocation must be thoroughly prepared,” the President told journalists after inaugurating Djuanda Flyover in East Java provincial capital of Surabaya, Friday (09/06).
The President also shared his plan to frequently visit Nusantara to ensure that the construction progress meets the timelines and the targets.
“We will continue to visit Nusantara frequently – for three or four days – to consolidate everything with Head of the IKN Authority so that everything we’ve planned meets the targets,” he explained.
The Head of State also underscored that the development of Nusantara is a massive project; thereby the relocation of state civil apparatus will be carefully re-planned based on the progress of the project.
“It’s not as simple as we thought – just moving right away. We need to consider whether housing is ready, whether apartments are ready. And if apartments are ready, are water and electricity also ready? Everything needs to be in place,” he added.
Developing Nusantara, the President added, means developing a large ecosystem, which is expected to form a lively environment with genuine interactions among the residents.
“We hope interactions among the people, among the residents in Nusantara, will form a truly vibrant community in economic, social, and cultural aspects,” the President concluded. (BPMI Setpres/ABD) (AY/EP)
