President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday (9/11) at the State Palace, Jakarta, handed over one million land certificates in a virtual ceremony.

The handover ceremony is part of the commemoration of Agrarian and Spatial Planning Day. The beneficiaries of the certificates are the people living in 31 provinces and 201 cities/regencies.

“One million certificates is a very large number. Before the PTSL (Comprehensive Systematic Land Registration) program, before 2017, every year we only issued approximately 500,000 land certificates in Indonesia,” the President said.

The President added that in 2015, out of 126 million parcels of land, only 46 million land certificates were issued, leading to land disputes in many regions.

President Jokowi also said that he had ordered Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency to simplify procedures and speed up the issuance of land certificates.

With the hard work of all employees of the National Land Agency in cities/regencies, provinces and central Government, the President added, the previous target has been achieved. The Government has issued 1.1 million land certificates in 2016, 5.4 million land certificates in 2017, 9.3 million land certificates in 2018, and 11.2 million land certificates in 2019.

“This year, I actually set a target of 10 million (land certificates) but, because of the pandemic, I have reduced the target from 10 million to 7 million. I am sure that, God willing, the target will also be achieved,” the President said, adding that by 2025 all parcels of land in Indonesia are expected to be certified.

In the meantime, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency reported that out of the 7 million certificates set to be achieved in 2020, approximately 6.5 million land certificates have been issued. (TGH/UN)
