President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, accompanied by First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi, handed over land certificates to the people in Gelora Delta Stadium, Sidoarjo regency, East Java province, Monday (08/22).

As many as 3,000 people from Sidoarjo regency, Malang regency, Malang city, and Gresik regency are scheduled to receive the certificates.

In his remarks, the President said that the land certificates must be used wisely.

“You can use them to get loans from banks. But if you (for example) manage to get Rp100 million, use it for working capital, use it for investment capital, use it for business capital,” the President said.

President Jokowi also reminded the people to be mindful before using the certificates to get loans from banks and not to use the money for consumptive purposes.

“(You get) Rp500 million. You use Rp250 million for a new car. It’s indeed nice to go around the hamlet, to go around the village using a car, but believe me when I say, it lasts only for six months. It’s only six months before you can’t pay the installments. You can’t pay the bank installments. You can’t pay the car installments. That’s where the disaster begins,” he added.

Similarly, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (BPN) Hadi Tjahjanto said in his report that the distribution of land certificates is part of the stimuli to boost the people’s economy after the declining cases of COVID-19.

“With land certificates, the people have opportunities to get access to capital in addition to legal certainty about their lands,” he said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (FI/MMB)
