President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo encouraged the people who received land certificates to know well their own lands.

“The holder of the certificates must know well the size of their lands. Look at the certificate and see how big your land is, for example 432 m2 or 1,246 m2,” the President said when attending the handing over of land certificates at Graha Batununggal Indah, Bandung Kidul, Bandung, Wednesday (12/4) afternoon.

Having a certificate, the President added, means the legal rights of land ownership is clear. “There is an evidence, so other people cannot claim your land,” the President added.

According to the President, the certificates can be kept or used to borrow money from the bank. However, President Jokowi reminded all not to use it to buy motorcycles or cars.

“It can be used to borrow money from the bank, but use it for productive things. Use it to make money so you can pay your installment to the bank. Please be careful. If you cannot afford to pay back the installment, you shall not force it,” the President said.

The Target of Land Certificates Settlement

In West java, there are only 6 million out of 19 million pieces of land that have certificates. Therefore, the President ordered Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/Head of National Land Agency Sofyan Djalil to immediately resolve the issues related with land certificates all over Indonesia.

From 126 million pieces of land in Indonesia, according to the President, it is only 40 percent or 46 million pieces of land that have certificates. This condition causes land conflicts amongst the people.

“Usually, only 500 thousand a year. I told the Minister to issue, this year, 5 million certificates all over Indonesia. There are 370 thousand certificates that must be issued this year in West Java only,” the President further said.

The President affirmed that the work must be controlled, checked, and calculated. If not, this problem will not be completely solved and it will bring disadvantages to the people.

The total of land certificates handed over in West Java Province are 2,008 certificates from 20 Cities/Regencies in West Java, such as Bandung City (331 certificates), Bandung Regency (200 certificates), Cimahi City (122 certificates), Cianjur Regency (125 certificates), West Bandung Regency (450 certificates), Sukabumi Regency (120 certificates), Sukabumi City (75 certificates), Garut (175 certificates), Purwakarta (280 certificates), and Sumedang (110 certificates).
