President Jokowi Highlights Importance of Continual Implementation of Covid-19 Locally Based Intervention Strategies
In a bid to accelerate the Covid-19 handling, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo highlighted the importance of continual implementation of locally based intervention strategies.
“Large-scale social restrictions at the village level, I think Covid-19 handling in this small scope will make it easier for us to solve problems in the field. So that it does not interfere with large areas, on the economy, we will not be disturbed much,” the President stated his directives on the Acceleration of Covid-19 Handling at the Military Region Command III/Siliwangi, West Java Province, Tuesday (11/8).
Facing this crisis management, President Jokowi stated that the Regional Military Commander and the Regional Police Chief, as well as their subordinates, should assist the strict implementation of health protocols, such as wearing masks, washing hands, and avoiding crowds. “In these two weeks, assisted by the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), the Regional Task Force, we should intensify the movement of wearing masks. This movement can solve many issues related to Covid-19,” he said.
On the occasion, the President also reminded that to transition into better stages, an area should implement precondition stages and good timing. “We don’t want people to think everything is back to normal when we transition into the new normal. We have to remind them of this. So, timing is very important,” he stated.
President Jokowi also reminded the importance of prioritizing on what sector should be first reopened. “These stages must be carried out, the low-risk sector takes precedence, the sector with high risk, please hold,” the President added.
The President also expressed his gratitude and highest appreciation to the Governor and the entire Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) members, Regents, Mayors, all ranks of the Task Force, doctors and nurses, all community leaders, volunteers, and the TNI and Polri for their efforts in controlling Covid-19 in the province.
Furthermore, the President also stated that 215 countries in the world have been exposed to Covid-19. To date, 19.7 million of the world’s population is infected with Covid-19, and 728 thousand have died due to the pandemic. So far, the country has faced 127 thousand confirmed cases, as many as 82 thousand people have recovered, and 5,700 patients have died from it.
“We have to be grateful that as the Governor has said, green and yellow zones are the average condition in West Java. I hope this can be maintained, controlled. This Covid-19 threat is not over until our people be vaccinated,” he concluded. (TGH/EN)
