President Jokowi Holds Bilateral Meeting with Canadian Prime Minister
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Saturday (05/20) had a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau at the Rihga Royal Hotel, Hiroshima, Japan.
“I ask for support from your Excellency regarding the completion of the Indonesia-Canada CEPA, the realization of the Canada Pension Plan investment that focuses on the development of the Nusantara Capital City, and the development of funding mechanism for a feasibility study for greenfield projects in Indonesia,” the President said.
The President also said that the development of a green airport in North Kalimantan, exploration and enrichment of rare earth elements, and the establishment of a bilateral task force are expected to be accelerated. The President also expressed his appreciation for the support of the G7 countries, including Canada, in assisting Indonesia’s energy transition.
Regarding food security, the President encouraged the implementation of an agreement between Indonesia’s State-Owned Enterprises and the Canadian Commercial Corporation related to the supply of potash and wheat.
During the meeting, President Jokowi and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also discussed ASEAN issues, including the situation in Myanmar.
President Jokowi further said that the upcoming ASEAN-Canada Summit will be held September this year in Indonesia.
