President Jokowi Holds Meeting with MPR Leaders At Merdeka Palace

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo received a visit and held a meeting with Leaders of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (08/09).

In his statement, the MPR Chairman, Bambang Soesatyo said that the meeting discussed the preparation ahead of the Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia.

“In essence, we discussed the preparation of the upcoming 2023 Annual Session of the MPR RI on the 16th (August), plus a Joint Session of DPR and DPD RI,” Bambang said.

Furthermore, the Chairperson said that this meeting also discussed matters related to the constitution and the smooth sailing towards the 2024 General Elections.

“We also stated some things that we have done and will do in this political year related to the constitution, and demand that the elections will be held smoothly, safe and orderly,” he said.

Moreover, Bambang said that the meeting discussed the probability of the constitutional change that needs to be continuously adjusted.

“We also said some things about constitutional steps we need to anticipate, not just in this period but for the next one. That’s because we realized that the result of the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution needs to be enhanced based on the current times,” Bambang said.
