President Jokowi Hopes ‘Istana Berbatik’ Boosts People’s Pride in Batik
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, accompanied by First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi, inaugurated Sunday (01/10) Istana Berbatik, a fashion show commemorating National Batik Day on 2nd October, in front of Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
The Head of State was seen wearing batik with parang and udan liris motifs, while the First Lady wore batik blouse with truntum motif and skirt with parang motif.
On that occasion, the President expressed his hope that the event could boost people’s pride in wearing batik.
“On today’s ‘Istana Berbatik’, an event held to commemorate National Batik Day on 2nd October, I call on all Indonesian people to boost pride in the wealth of Indonesian arts and cultures while actively preserving and developing them,” he said.
Furthermore, President Jokowi went on to say that all Indonesian people should be grateful to have batik as intangible cultural heritage that is closely associated with the Indonesian nation andis also recognized by the UNESCO.
For the record, Istana Berbatik was attended by approximately 4,000 guests and the fashion show was participated by 500 people, including ministers, state officials, public figures, representatives of monarchies in all over Indonesia, professional models, and ambassadors of friendly countries.
