President Jokowi Hopes Waste Becomes Energy Source for Electricity

President Jokowi led a limited meeting on waste management into electricity, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, on Friday (5/2) afternoon

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo accompanied by Vice President Jusuf Kalla led a limited meeting on waste management into electricity, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, on Friday (5/2) afternoon.

“As a reminder, we have already discussed waste management into electricity for many times. I hope this is the last meeting, we could make a decision and implement it directly,” President Jokowi said in his remarks.

The President reminded that he has already requested to use a technology to manage the waste effectively and waste problem could disappear from big cities in Indonesia. Waste bank, the culture of reduce, reuse, and recycle have already been implemented in several cities.

“This afternoon, I think we will reiterate waste management into electricity and we hope it will increase our electricity supply,” President Jokowi said.

The most important thing, President Jokowi added, is to make waste disappear from the cities and could bring an energy. “It might relate to the price and in which cities where the program apply,” the President said.

Attending the limited meeting were Corodinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Resources Rizal Ramli, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Presidential Chief of Staffs Teten Masduki, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo, Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, Minister of Finance Bambang Brodjonegoro, Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/ the Head of National Development Planning Agency Sofyan Djalil, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno, and Managing Director of State-Owned Electricity Company PLN Sofyan Basyir.
