The State Palace Wednesday (04/10) held an open house for the public as an occasion to reflect on the social values, togetherness, and hopes for the Indonesian nation.

On that occasion, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, the First Lady Iriana Jokowi, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin and wife Ibu Wury Ma’ruf Amin, as well as heads of institutions, ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet, and ambassadors, gathered to exchange greetings during the moment of Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy expressed his joy at the extraordinary enthusiasm from the people which was evident from the long queues of people waiting for their turn to shake hands with President Jokowi.

He added that Lebaran (a term for Eid al-Fitr in Indonesia) is a moment to break down social barriers among communities to forgive each other.

“Lebaran is a symbol to eliminate the social barrier, gap, and reluctance to build communication with each other so people can acknowledge their mistakes, hence it’s called ”Lebaran” because various barriers dissolve. Furthermore, it is difficult for us to find another momentum like Lebaran to come and apologize to others or forgive others,” he said.

In the meantime, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati also expressed gratitude for the hosting of this event which offer opportunity to both the Government officials and the public to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with President Jokowi and the First Lady.

In addition, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) General Agus Subiyanto also conveyed that today’s gathering is filled with warmth where all elements of society feel the joy of Eid al-Fitr. He also expressed hope that this Eid al-Fitr will bring health and safety for the nation and the people. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RAS/LW)
