President Jokowi: IKN Memorial Park IKN Built as Remembrance of Heroes, Founding Fathers

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (01/17) led the groundbreaking ceremony of Nusantara Capital (IKN) Memorial Park in North Penajam Paser regency, East Kalimantan province.

According to the President, the memorial park is built as a remembrance of the struggle of Indonesia’s founding fathers and heroes for independence.

“The memorial park will serve as a remembrance of the heroes and founding fathers who have worked hard to fight for the independence of the nation, state, and Indonesian people,” he said, adding that the park built in an area of 2,034 square meters will be integrated with Beranda Nusantara area and it will be a point of interest in the new capital.

“In addition, if foreign leaders come to visit, wreath-laying ceremonies will take place at this memorial park,” he said, adding that the park built with a budget of approximately Rp361 billion will be equipped with altar, stair, regional infrastructure, and landscape areas.

The President further stated that the park will complete other facilities that have been constructed in IKN, adding that the construction is aimed to be completed in August 2024, just in time to be used for the Independence Day ceremony.

“Once again, this place will always remind the Indonesian people, remind us all of the service of the heroes who have fought for the independence of our country,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (DH/EP)
