President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Sunday (11/3) inspected the progress of Cash Labor Intensive (Padat Karya Tunai) program in Kempek Village, Gempol District, Cirebon Regency, West Java Province.

The program is implemented by Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing.

On that occasion, the President also inspected the project site for the construction of an agricultural road spanning 800 meters worth Rp600 millions. The project is set to be finished in three months.

The President also inspected the project of irrigation system spanning 590 meters in 85-hectare rice field. This project’s value is Rp225millions and is expected to be completed in 60 days.

“I have asked about the wage of assistant workers. It is Rp80.000, while the worker gets Rp100.000. I think that is good enough. The average wages here are Rp80.000 and Rp100.000,” the President told journalists during the inspection.

According to President Jokowi, the budget for the program will be raised if it brings positive impact for people.

“If the program can increase consumption rate, improve agricultural road condition, and increase purchasing power, we will raise (the budget).” President said, adding that the Government will evaluate the program after three months before deciding the next step and providing the budget.

“We will see. In Indonesia, we have more or less 5,000 locations for the projects implemented by Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. There are similar projects done by Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of State Owned Enterprise. We hope all of them will join this Padat Karya Tunai program.” the President said.

President Jokowi further said that there are 43 locations in Cirebon Regency where the program is implemented and hopes the program will bring positive impact for the prosperity of the people there.

“The most important thing is that the program will improve the purchasing power of people in villages and regions so the consumption rate will increase accordingly.” President explained.

Joining the President during the visit were Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin and West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan. (BPMI/EN) (RI/EP/Naster)
