President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Wednesday (07/07), inaugurated Al Haris and Abdullah Sani as Governor and Vice Governor of Jambi province for the 2021-2024 period in the State Palace, Jakarta.

Prior to the inauguration, the elected pair received an excerpt of Presidential Decree at Merdeka Palace Jakarta. Afterwards, President Jokowi and Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, and Governor- and Vice Governor-elect marched toward the State Palace.

The inauguration was carried out in accordance with Decree of President of Republic of Indonesia Number 93/P of 2021 on the Discharge of Governor of Jambi in Office and Inauguration of Governor and Vice Governor of Jambi stipulated in Jakarta on 2 July 2021.

“In the name of Allah, I swear that I will perform my duties as Governor/Vice Governor to the best of my ability and as just as possible, that I will strictly observe the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and faithfully implement the laws and regulations, and that I will be devoted to the people and the country,” the President dictated an excerpt of the oath of office, followed by the pair.

After the oath of office ceremony, the President and Vice President then congratulated Governor and Vice Governor of Jambi and took a photo together. The inauguration proceeded solemnly with strict health protocols.

After being inaugurated, Jambi Governor Al Haris gave assurance that that he and Vice Governor Abdullah Sani will prioritize COVID-19 pandemic management and economic recovery in the province.

“Firstly, we would like to thank the President who has inaugurated us, and Vice President of Jambi. Our first duty is surely (to figure out) how to curb the number of COVID-19 cases in Jambi province. Secondly, we will certainly restore Jambi’s economy as well, which is (a part of) our national goal, namely national economic recovery. Next, as we are amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we are surely working hard to tackle COVID-19 so that the region is safe, the people are safe, and we can work the way we used to do,” Al Haris said.
