Quoting words of wisdom from Buya Hamka—an Indonesian Muslim scholar and philosopher, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said, “the decline of a nation will not happen if it is not triggered by moral values degradation of its people”.

President Jokowi enunciated the words in the inauguration of Prof. Dr. Hamka Modern Integrated Islamic Boarding School in Padang, West Sumatra, Monday (21/5).

However, President Jokowi believed that the public has become more mature in politics and can sort out information they received.

The President, on that event, also once again clarified two issues related to him: first, an issue about the Indonesian Communist Party; and second, an issue telling that he is Chinese descent.

“Issues like this will drain our energy if it happens continuously,” President Jokowi said.

At the end of his remarks, by saying Bismillahirahmannirahim, President Jokowi inaugurated new buildings for junior as well as senior high schools, apartment at Prof. Dr. Hamka Modern Integrated Islamic Boarding School and Hajjah Yuliana Mosque.

Also attending the event were First Lady Ibu Iriana, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Member of the Presidential Advisory Board (Wantimpres) Sidarto Danusubroto, Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Archandra Tahar, and Governor of West Sumatra Irwan Prayitno. (DNS/RAH/EN) (STU/MMB/Naster)
