President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (07/11) inaugurated Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) toll road.

The inauguration ceremony took place in front of the iconic twin tunnels spanning 472 meters on kilometer 169 situated in Rancakalong village, Sumedang regency, West Java province.

“Thank God, today [the construction of] Cisumdawu toll road, Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan toll road is finished and it is ready to operate. The toll road connects us to Bandung through Cipularang and Cipali toll roads,” he said, while expressing hope that the toll road can boost connectivity to Kertajati International Airport in the neighboring Majalengka regency.

According to the President, the 61.6-kilometer-long toll road was constructed at the same time as that of Kertajati airport, but due to land acquisition issues, the airport construction was finished earlier.

“No other toll road in Indonesia has a twin tunnel like the ones we saw this morning,” he said, adding that the toll road was built with a budget of Rp18.3 trillion.

“Due to land acquisition issues, the construction of Kertajati airport was finished early, but the toll road was not so it hindered the airport operations,” he said, while expressing hope that the toll road can jumpstart the airport’s full operations.

The President also pointed out that Kertajati Airport has provided services for several flights and begun to attract foreign investors.

“In my opinion, Kertajati Airport is supported by Cisumdawu toll road and it is our future airport because now [investors from] many countries want to invest in and make partnership with the airport, including to operate it and increase flight traffic. It is our hope,” he remarked.  (TGH/UN) (DH/EP)
