President Jokowi Friday (02/25) inaugurates Danowudu-Bitung section of the Manado-Bitung toll road in Bitung city, North Sulawesi province.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (02/25) at Bitung toll gate in the North Sulawesi costal town of Bitung officiated Danowudu-Bitung section of Manado-Bitung toll road.

“This afternoon, the 13.5-kilometer Danowudu-Bitung section of Manado-Bitung toll road was completed. Thus, the contruction of the entire 39.8-kilometer Manado-Bitung toll road is complete and ready to support people’s activities in the province,” President Jokowi said in his remarks.

Previously, in September 2020 the President inaugurated the 26-km Manado-Danowudu section. According to the President, this toll road will cut travel time from Manado to Bitung from 1.5-2 hours to around 30-35 minutes.

“It took me 35 minutes without speeding. If we do, it should take about 30 minutes,” he said.

The President expressed belief that the toll road will facilitate delivery of logistics, mobility of goods and people from Manado to Bitung, Bitung International Port, and later Likupang Special Economic Zone (SEZ). It will also boost the province’s development.

“We hope through this toll road, new points of economic growth will emerge and economic growth in North Sulaersi will exceed that of the national growth after the province recorded economic growth that was above that national growth in 2021,” he said.

In the meantime, Governor of North Sulawesi Olly Dondokambey expressed gratitude for the construction of Manado-Bitung toll road, which can shorten travel time between regions in the province.

This development, according to Olly, proves that the Government is developing the country from east to west.

The Governor also expressed hope that the toll road can continue to spur growth in the province, adding that  in 2021, the growth in the province reached 4.17 percent, exceeding the national one.

“We hope today’s inauguration will boost economic growth of the SEZ area and also the Likupang tourism area,” Olly remarked.  (FID/UN) (FI/EP)
