President Jokowi Inaugurates Greater Jakarta Integrated LRT

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Monday (08/28) at Cawang LRT Station, Jakarta, inaugurated Light Rail Transit mode of transportation (LRT) which links the city of Jakarta with Bogor city, Depok city, and Bekasi city.

“By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today I inaugurate Greater Jakarta-Integrated LRT,” President Jokowi said.

The President expressed hope that the 41.2 km-LRT built with a budget of Rp32.6 trillion can be used by residents in Greater Jakarta to reduce traffic congestion and pollution.

After delivering his remarks, President Jokowi tapped an electronic card to mark the operation of the LRT.

Minister for Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that the Greater Jakarta LRT rounded off the existing modes of transportation and Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train, which will also soon be inaugurated.

“One of our efforts to create environmentally friendly modes of transportation that also prioritize safety and service is the integration of electric rail train (KRL), bus rapid transit (BRT), mass rapid transportation (MRT), as well as linking route buses and public minivans (Jaklingko), and the integration will reach Bandung,” Budi explained.

The Minister also said that the Greater Jakarta LRT is developed with modern and advanced rail transportation technology.

Prior to the LRT inauguration, President Jokowi, accompanied the First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi who also took the LRT from Harjamukti Station in Depok city to Cawang Station in Jakarta, passed Cibubur Line route for about 24.3 km with 12 stations along the way.

In addition to the route, Bekasi Line route is also now operating, covering a distance of 27.3 km and 14 stations along the way.  (TGH/DK/UN)(AW/EP)
