President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated the Among Tani Central Market in Batu city, East Java province, on Thursday (12/14).

In his speech, the President said that the market, which began its construction in 2021, is the largest market in the country.

“This is the biggest market I have ever seen in Indonesia. Occupying 3.4 hectares, the building is very magnificent and has three floors. Everything is arranged very well,” said the President.

The President said that the Among Tani Market can accommodate up to 2,700 kiosks and stalls that are neatly arranged.

“When I first came in, the stalls are arranged very well. There is also a separate space for food and culinary,” said the President.

Furthermore, the President assessed that this market will be a good and neat market, while expressing hope that the existence of the market can improve the welfare of traders in Batu city.

A number of sellers also expressed hope that the new market can boost their sales.

Johan Bambang Irawan, a fruit seller who has started his business at this location since 2001, expressed belief that the construction of the Among Tani Central Market will be able to increase buyers’ comfort.

“After entering this new building with a new layout, with a new concept, buyers will be more comfortable and in the end will increase our income,” said Johan. (BPMI/AIT) (EST/MMB)
