President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated Lausimeme Dam in Deli Serdang regency, North Sumatra province, on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

“Lausimeme Dam is the 47th dam I have inaugurated in the past 10 years,” the President said.

President Jokowi emphasized the significance of the dam development, which was initiated in 2018 and involved an investment of Rp1.76 trillion. He conveyed the substantial benefits Lausimeme Dam brings to the local community.

“This dam is expected to reduce flooding in Medan city, in Deli Serdang regency. It will also provide raw water for Medan and Deli Serdang, furthermore it  will irrigate the rice fields near the reservoir,” the President explained.

The dam, covering an inundation area of ​​125 hectares, has a capacity of 21 million cubic meters of water. President Jokowi expressed hope that North Sumatra people will be able to experience the benefits of the dam soon.

“We hope that the dam will bring benefits for North Sumatra,”

The Lausimeme Dam is part of the Government’s efforts to enhance irrigation infrastructure development across various regions in Indonesia. Through the inauguration, the Government emphasizes their commitment to improving the community’s welfare through sustainable infrastructure development.
