President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (06/03) inaugurated Mayapada Hospital Bandung in West Java provincial capital Bandung.

In his remarks, the President expressed appreciation to the hospital for adopting the green hospital concept.

“I just entered the hospital—Mayapada Hospital Bandung. Everything I saw, the rooms, the medical devices, the spatial planning, the green buildings are excellent,” he said while expressing hope that the modern hospital can reduce the number of patients traveling abroad for medical care.

“One million—approximately one million [patients] went to Malaysia, approximately 750,000 went to Singapore, and the rest to Japan, to the United States, to Germany, and so on. Should we let it go on like this?” he said.

According to the President, the Government will fully support the construction of hospitals with international standards in order to prevent the country from losing a large amount of foreign exchange.

“We have lost Rp165 trillion of our foreign exchange because there is capital outflow,” he said while expressing hope that there will be no social disparity in terms of gaining healthcare access and service.

“I ordered the President Director of Mayapada Hospital Bandung not to serve only the upper middle class but also the Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS) patients. Apparently, the hospital has already served many BPJS patients,” he remarked. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT) (DH/LW)
