President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, on Thursday at the State Palace, inaugurated Central Sulawesi Governor Longki Djanggola and his Deputy Governor Sudarto for the 2016 – 2021 term.

In his remarks, President Jokowi said that after being inaugurated, both Longki Djanggola and Sudarto are expected to materialize their promises to bring prosperity and advancement for the people in Central Sulawesi.

President Jokowi also hopes that the newly inaugurated Governor and Vice Governor could prioritize three things that are mandated by the people: free the people from poverty, narrow social gaps and gaps among regions, and boost economic growth with quality so unemployment can be reduced and job opportunities can be widely opened.

“You have to make sure that people in your province have access to fast, good, and affordable services and will not find difficulties to have access to education, health, and clean water services,” the President said, adding that the pair must also ensure that people in the province can enjoy infrastructures such as roads and bridges so regions there can be connected.

“You also have to ensure that the people can enjoy electricity service without power cut and have access to mass transport that is safe and comfortable,” the President added.

The pair is also expected to prepare the province to face the era of competition with the spirits of hard work, productivity, and innovation, the President said.

Therefore, the President asked the Governor and the Deputy Governor to cut regulations that impeded economic growth in the region and complicate bureaucracy.

“Carry out bureaucratic reforms and public budget in fundamental ways. Improve governance system and innovation in public services so that the government’s presence can always be felt among the people,” President Jokowi said, adding that only through those ways can Indonesia become a developed country and win the competition.

On that occasion, the President also reminded that governors and deputy governors are the Central Government’s representatives in the regions and asserted that the Central Government and regional governments must become a unity.

“We have to be on the same straight line. We must have the same visions, directions, and purposes. We must be in a synergy and share burdens,” President Jokowi said.

For the record, the inauguration is based on the Presidential Decree Number 70P of 2016 on the Endorsement and Dismissal of Governor and Deputy Governor of Central Sulawesi for the period of 2011-2016, and Endorsement and Appointment of Governor and Deputy Governor of Central Sulawesi for 2016-2021 Term.

Also attending the inauguration were, among others, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo, Speaker of the Indonesian Regional Legislative Council (DPD-RI) Irman Gusman, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR-RI) Oesman Sapta Odang, Deputy Speakers of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR-RI) Fahri Hamzah and Agus Hermanto, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) General Gatot Nurmantyo, and Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri) General Badrodin Haiti. (DND/ES) (EP/YM/Naster)
