President Jokowi Inaugurates Nipa Nipa Regulation Pond in Maros Regency
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (18/03/2021) inaugurated Nipa Nipa regulation pond in Maros regency in South Sulawesi province.
“Alhamdulillah (Thank God), today we are inaugurating and operating the pond because it has been completed for five years. This pond functions to manage water, especially floods in Makassar city,” the President said.
For the record, the construction of this 83-hectare regulation pond with a water capacity of 2.7 million cubic meters used a budget of Rp320 billion.
With an area that is similar to a reservoir, the President added, this pond, which is located in the river flow area of Tallo river, is expected to reduce flooding by up to 45 percent.
The Head of State also expressed hope that this regulation pond can be utilized to speed up construction progress in the province, adding that the Government is also conducting various infrastructure projects in South Sulawesi province, one of which is the Makassar New Port, projected to be the largest port in Eastern Indonesia.
“Makassar New port is vital. It will become a hub in Eastern Indonesia. I will order Minister of Transportation to finish it so that the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises can operate it immediately,” he remarked. (DND/UN) (AP/EP)
