President Jokowi Inaugurates Papua Street Carnival

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (07/07) inaugurated the Papua Street Carnival in Papua provincial capital of Jayapura.

“In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, I hereby officially inaugurate the Papua Street Carnival,” President Jokowi said in his opening remarks.

The Papua Street Carnival is a collaboration between Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH) that was also inaugurated by the President in March this year.

According to the President, this creative hub will boost creative economy sector in Papua.

“I believe all Papuan youth will make a great leap,” he added.

President Jokowi added that all local Papuan products showcased at the Papua Street Carnival have good-quality packaging, while underscoring that fashion products also have good-quality designs.

In addition to manufacturing creative products, Papuan youth has also manufactured products of technology, including smartphone and laptop, the President added.

“As Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy said, [Papuan youth] has manufactured smartphones and laptops. They were manufactured in eastern Indonesia, not in western Indonesia. Indeed, it is a big leap,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (AP/EP)
