The development of infrastructures project should not only be monitored during the groundbreaking; in fact all ministers must monitor all projects until they are completed and the problems on the ground must be solved and people must receive benefits from those projects.

The statement was made by President Joko ’Jokowi’ Widodo in his remarks during the inauguration of Pejagan-Pemalang Toll Road Section 1 and 2 (connecting Pejagan and East Brebes), and the integrated Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road with Cipularang, Padaleunyi, and Cipali, on Thursday (16/6), in Brebes, Central Java.

The construction of Pejagan-Pemalang Toll Road was agreed by the investors 26 years ago; yet, due to some problems in land acquisition process and land issues, the project could not be implemented, President Jokowi said.

“Alhamdulillah, the 20-km- Pejagan-Pemalang Toll Road Section 1 and 2 will be inaugurated today. While, the groundbreaking of Batang-Semarang Toll Road will be conducted tomorrow and is expected to be finished in 2018,” the President added.

Afterwards, the President targeted the construction of Toll Roads in West and East Java to be completed in 2018.

“The toll roads will connect West and East Java and it will be followed by constructing toll road in Sumatra,” President Jokowi said, adding that the construction of toll road in Sumatra has begun.

On that occasion, Deputy Governor of Central Java Heru Sudjatmoko said that the construction of toll road in Central Java was started in 1996 and later in 1998.

“The project was postponed and the news came again in 2007-2008, but it has not been implemented yet. The project echoed again after President Jokowi sworn in as the President,” Heru said.

Through the construction, people in Central Java are convinced that the toll road project is really being implemented.

“People in Central Java feel grateful for the construction,” Heru stated.

In the inauguration, President Jokowi was accompanied by First Lady Ibu Iriana, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno, Deputy Governor of Central Java Heru Sudjatmoko, and Regent of Brebes Idzah Triyanti. (EN/ES) (RAS/EP/YM/Naster)
