President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (02/28) inaugurated Samarinda Seberang Terminal in Samarinda city, East Kalimantan province.

In his remarks, the President called on the people to use mass transportation.

“We can see that cities everywhere including Samarinda, Balikpapan, and Banjarmasin are experiencing traffic jam. Therefore, we have to promote the use mass transportation, public transportation so we can reduce the use of private vehicles,” President Jokowi said, while citing Jakarta as an example where traffic jam occurs for years although it already has various mass transportation, such as commuter line (KRL), light rail transit (LRT), mass rapid transit (MRT), and Transjakarta.

“Therefore, other cities should prepare public transportation, mass transportation,” he said.

The Head State also said that he is satisfied with the establishment of Samarinda Seberang Terminal, adding that the terminal that was previously poor, dirty, and unorganized has become a clean, neat, and organized terminal.

“We hope that will encourage the people to start to use public transportation. From here, we can go to Balikpapan city, Banjarmasin city. I think it will be excellent if people use public transportation instead of private transportation. It is, once again, aimed to reduce traffic jam in all our cities,” he remarked.
