President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (08/25) inaugurated Water Supply Development System (SPAM) for the regions of Medan-Binjai-Deli Serdang in Binjai city, North Sumatra province.

“I’ve ordered governors, regents, and mayors to follow up on household water pipe network since there are approximately 88,000 households or 440,000 people that can be connected to the SPAM,” President Jokowi said.

The President also expressed appreciation for the collaboration of the Central Government and regional governments in the construction of 1,100 liters/second SPAM worth Rp948 billion.

“This is collaboration between the Central Government, provincial governments, and municipality/regency governments. The project is running on the provincial government’s land. If such cooperation is good, development process will also run swiftly,” he added.

President Jokowi also underlined the importance of water availability in people’s daily lives.

“I can feel the importance of water after four days in Africa. We often do not feel how important water is since we are never short of water. If one never lacks water, they will never understand how important water is,” the President said.

On the same occasion, President Jokowi also inaugurated the Aek Tano Ponggol Bridge located in Samosir regency. The bridge was built with a cost of Rp157 billion.

“The bridge has a total span of 294 meters with the main span of 99 meters and width of 8 meters,” the President remarked. (FID/UN) (GWH/EP)
