President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo pointed up that the Government will continue the industrial dowstreaming which is believed to be a great leap for the state civilization.

“We must be determined. We will not back down, we do not hesitate since such natural resources belong to Indonesia. It is our sovereignty. We determine them to be the benefit for our people, our society,” President Jokowi stated  when delivering his remarks at the Commemoration of 50th Anniversary of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Tuesday (01/10).

President Jokowi also emphasized that the Government will not hesitate in facing the suit filed by the European Union (EU) to the World Trade Organization (WTO) against Indonesia’s stop exporting nickel ores.

“Our policy to stop exporting nickel ores was sued by the EU and it is decided that we lost. However, I said to Minister of Foreign Affairs not to back down because this will be a great leap for our state civilization. I am assured that,” he remarked.

The President added that at the recent ASEAN-EU Summit, he also promoted equality in international partnership, consequently there is no country is superior to other countries.

“I mentioned that the partnership should be equal, without constraints, no country should dictate, and no developed countries think that their standards are better than ours,” he emphasized.

As President Soekarno said in 1965, President Jokowi added, Indonesia must be able to be independent and not to be dependent on any other countries. Furthermore, President Soekarno also encouraged the Government to enhance equal cooperations with other countries for mutual benefit.

Bung Karno in 1965 stated it, so we cannot be dictated and be dependent on any other countries. This is what we want to do: to be self-sufficient, be self-sufficient, and be self-sufficient,” he remarked. (MAY/UN) (AW/HD/LW)
