President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (02/02) inaugurated the improvement of Bebas Parapat beach in Simalungun regency, North Sumatera province.

Upon his arrival, the local community warmly welcomed the President.

President Jokowi also inspected the beach to ensure whether the revitalization and the facilities improvement project are ready to be supporting facilities for Toba Lake that is included as one of five super-priority tourist destinations.

According to the President, the Area of Toba Lake has a great potential.

He added that it is also expected that Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy can carry out more improvement, rebranding so that Toba Lake has a specialty that is different from other tourist destinations, he added.

Furthermore, President Jokowi underscored that as of today several facilities to offer cultural, art performance in the area of Bebas Parapat beach have been built, adding that viewing towers to enjoy stunning view around the area of Toba Lake also have been built.

For the record, the improvement of Bebas Parapat beach that has a total area of 10,000 square meters costed Rp84.1 billion including the construction of the area’s gate and the improvement of the Parapat public open space (RTP Parapat).

On that occasion, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing’s Director General of Cipta Karya (Construction Work and Creation) Diana Kusumastuti expressed hope that the improvement of Bebas Parapat beach can attract both more domestic and international tourists who want to enjoy the beauty of Toba Lake as one of five super-priority tourist destinations.

“It is also expected that (the improvement) can increase the local economic growth in Simalungun regency and around the area of Toba Lake,” Diana remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (AP/EP)
