President Jokowi Inspects COVID-19 Mass Vaccination in Balikpapan

During his working visit to East Kalimantan Province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inspected mass COVID-19 vaccination at the Balikpapan Sport and Convention Center (BSCC) Dome, Balikpapan, Tuesday (24/8).

Upon his arrival at 4 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), President Jokowi observed the vaccination processes, including the administration of the vaccine, and greeted vaccine administrators and participants of the program.

In the mass vaccination, Sinovac and Moderna vaccines were administered to 1,900 people, including students, pregnant women, religious figures, prominent figures, senior citizens, and those with disabilities. It was also administered as a booster (third shot) for medical workers.

After the inspection, President Jokowi headed to Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport and returned to Jakarta.

For the record, the President, earlier in the morning, inspected vaccination for students at State Junior High School SMPN 22 Samarinda. On that occasion, he also had a dialog with organizers of COVID-19 vaccination in nine regencies/municipalities in the province.

“Today, I learned that besides Samarinda, vaccination was also carried out simultaneously in nine regencies and municipalities. In total, 24,000 doses of vaccine will be administered today in East Kalimantan Province,” he said.

The Head of State expressed hope that the vaccination drive will be accelerated so that the country can immediately achieve herd immunity and to cut virus transmission chain.

“We hope vaccination drive can be accelerated that will limit COVID-19 transmission and free the province and the country from the virus,” he concluded. (TGH/UN) (RAS/MUR)
