President Jokowi Inspects Development of National Food Barn Area in C. Kalimantan

As part of his working visit to Central Kalimantan Province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Thursday (9/7) inspected the development of national food estate.

The President began his agenda by inspecting the area of food estate in Bentuk Jaya Village, Dadahup Subdistrict, Kapuas Regency. The food estate is expected to be a new food barn outside Java Island.

On that occasion, the Head of State listened to the presentation of Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo on the prospective food barn lands in the area to be further reviewed.

The President and Agriculture Minister as well as other relevant ministers also discussed briefly the development of the food barn area in a hut close to their location.

Also accompanying the President during the event were, among others, Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Central Kalimantan Governor Sugianto Sabran, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, and Kapuas Regent Ben Brahim S. Bahat.

For the record, 20,704 hectares of land will be developed as the new food barn area in Kapuas Regency, while 5,840 hectares have been functional.

In total, there is a potential alluvial area of 165,000 hectares for food barn development in the Province. To date, an area of 85,500 hectares is functional land that has been used for production every year.

The farming corporation will be the basis for food barn development in the Province. The development will be carried out in an integrated manner that covers agriculture, plantations, and livestock farming in the area.

The farmers who work on the land and animal husbandry will be consolidated in farmer association and equipped with both facilities and infrastructure as well as other supports.

After inspecting the location of food barn development, the Head of State and his entourage were also scheduled to inspect the Primary irrigation channel at Technical Services Unit (UPT) A.5 at Dadahup Subdistrict, which was guided by Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono.

The President ended his inspection in Kapuas Regency and scheduled to continue his working visit to Pulang Pisau Regency with land transportation. (BPMI / EN)
