President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Tuesday (16/10) reviewed public facilities for persons with disabilities at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) in Senayan, Jakarta.

The President reviewed among others public toilets in front of the main stadium, prayer rooms, and sidewalks as well as access to the Zone 5 tribune in the main stadium.

“80 percent of facilities are disabled-friendly,” President Jokowi said. Nevertheless, President Jokowi found that some of facilities at SUGBK have not accommodated the needs of disabled people, such as the sink placement that is too high and some of the door that is not a sliding door.

The President also expressed hopes that all provinces, cities and districts in the country can provide disabled-friendly facilities and all buildings, public spaces, public facilities and transportation can also be disabled-friendly.

Asked by the reporters how to materialize the plan, the President answered that the Government will prepare the concept first.

“Maybe we could give a tax incentive or maybe the issuance of a building proper function certificate. I think that the Jakarta government has implemented it,” President Jokowi said, adding that the Government also wants to invite representatives of disabled people to the Presidential Palace to discuss the issue.
