President Jokowi Inspects Drinking Water System in Tanimbar Islands
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Friday (09/02) inspected the Weymomolin drinking water system in Tanimbar Islands regency, Maluku province.
The President reminded all relevant stakeholders to take measures to anticipate the increasing demand for drinking water in the future.
On that occasion, Senior Adviser to Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Endra S. Atmawidjaja told the President that the Weymomolin drinking water system aims to provide clean water in Saumlaki, Tanimbar Islands, which is one of the outermost islands of Indonesia.
“The optimization in Saumlaki includes two systems sourced from Weymomolin and Bomaki springs. The water is distributed through intakes and pipelines to serve a total of 5,000 houses or about 80 percent of Saumlaki residents,” Endra said.
To overcome the increasing demand for drinking water, it would not be enough to rely solely on springs. To that end, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has prepared a technical plan to build a dam in Tanimbar Islands. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RI/MMB)
