President Jokowi Inspects Emergency Hospital for COVID-19 Patients

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday (23/3) inspected Kemayoran athlete village located in Central Jakarta that has been converted into an emergency hospital for handling covid-19 patients.

“The Athlete Village has a capacity of 24,000 people. It is noq ready for 3,000 patients with rooms available for patients, doctors, paramedics, all of them with different room management,” the President said, adding that the infrastructure, including patient treatment rooms, ventilators and personal protective equipment, is ready.

“I hope this afternoon the emergency hospital is ready to operate. Of course I hope the emergency hospital will never be used,” he said.

Regarding the limited supply of personal protective equipment, President Jokowi said that demands for the protective equipment is very high, with approximately 180 countries badly needing medical equipment, including protective equipment, face masks and sanitizers.

Indonesia, he added, has secured 105,000 pieces of personal protective equipment to be distributed to hospitals across the country.

The President further said that 45,000 pieces of personal protective equipment will be distributed in capital Jakarta, the city of Bogor, and Banten province, while 40,000 pieces will be distributed in the provinces of West Java, Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta and Bali.

“Ten thousand pieces will be distributed to all provinces outside of the island of Java and 10,000 pieces will be kept in reserve,” the President said. (HIM/UN/EN)
