President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (06/15) inspected Menteng Pulo Market in Jakarta to check the prices of basic necessities and potential inflation movement following Eid al-Fitr.
“I want to look into the price situation, especially related to inflation following Eid al-Fitr,” he said in his press statement following the inspection.
According to the President, the prices of several basic necessities remain stable although some commodities have experienced a price increase, including shallots whose price increased from Rp32,000-34,000 per kilogram to Rp44,000-45,000 per kilogram.
“There is no problem with rice prices. Medium-grade rice is sold at Rp9,000 and Rp9,500. I was surprised to know that there is rice that costs Rp9,000. I suppose it is good. Oil price remains at Rp14,000. Egg price lowered to Rp31,000,” he said.
Based on data from Statistics Indonesia, the inflation rate following Eid al-Fitr in May 2023 was 0.09 percent month to month (mtm), which decreased the consumer price index (CPI) inflation rate to 4.00 percent (year on year/yoy) from the inflation rate in the previous month at 4.33 percent (yoy).
