As part of his working visit to North Sumatra province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (03/14) visited Kawat traditional market in the city of Tanjungbalai to monitor food prices and stocks.

“Stocks of rice from the food supply and price stabilization program (SPHP) are still available with the price of Rp57,000 per 5 kg and Rp12,800 for local medium-quality rice. I think prices here remains stable compared to that of other provinces,” President Jokowi told the press.

Nevertheless, the President acknowledged that the price of chili has increased and stated that if the Government can control the price stability of staple food, it will provide benefits for the people.

On that occasion, the Head of State also distributed assistance to traders at the market.

Haji Sokon—one of the recipients—said that he would use the assistance to increase his business capital.

Alhamdulillah, I am delighted with the favors from Mr. President to our beloved city of Tanjungbalai,” Haji Sokon said. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (GWH/RAS/EP)
