President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (05/16) visited Talang Banjar People’s Market, Jambi city, Jambi province.

According to the President, the prices of food commodities in the market are stable and even tend to be lower for some commodities.

“After Eid, I want to make sure that the prices are good and in fact, [the prices] for some [commodities] have decreased, only [the price] of eggs has increased slightly,” the President said.

The President added that the inspection of prices in the market is important to control inflation which affects people’s purchasing power. To that end, the President ordered regional governments to continue to conduct inspections on the ground.

“I have ordered the governor, the mayor to keep a closer eye on the prices in the market. And, I am pleased that the inflation in Jambi has decreased, meaning that prices can be controlled,” he said.

In addition to inspections, the President said that a concrete step in assisting with transportation costs can be taken to control inflation. According to him, regional governments can allocate their regional budgets to help cover transportation costs from the production site to the market.

“I have clearly said back and forth to assist using the regional budgets of provinces, cities, and regencies to cover transportation costs from the production site to the market. It is clearly a concrete step,” he added.

On the occasion, President Jokowi also greeted and distributed working capital assistance to traders in the market. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (FI/LW)
