President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inspected Doyo Baru Healthy Housing at Waibu district, Jayapura regency, on Wednesday (08/31). The President called for a good housing ecosystem in Papua.

“We aim to create a good ecosystem, housing as a good living environment,” said the President in his press statement after the inspection.

In addition to housing, the President added, plots of land are also prepared for the people to grow crops and raise livestock.

“Minister of Social Affairs has prepared this housing with farming land. The people were planting spinaches, kangkung (water spinach), etc. There are also chicken, pork, and catfish farms, these are good,” he said.

The President expressed hope that efforts to empower locals could increase their prosperity.

”These all are built at one environment, therefore besides the housing, it could also be a good empowerment for the locals. We hope this eventually could increase prosperity,” said the President.

As quoted from the official website of Regency Government, the groundbreaking of the Doyo Baru Healthy Housing was conducted by Minister of Social Affairs in January 2022. This housing is prepared for 76 householders affected by flash flood and landslide in 2019.

“Most importantly, the houses that have been built can be occupied immediately,” he remarked. (FID/UN) (AS/MUR)
