President Jokowi Inspects Infrastructures in W. Nias Regency
In the series of his working visit to North Sumatra province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Wednesday (07/06), inspected Nias National Ring Road and Idano Sibolou Bridge in West Nias regency.
Infrastructure development in Nias Island aims at connecting and opening isolation of the western and northern parts of the island, as well as reducing extreme poverty since several regencies in that island are considered underdeveloped regions with extreme poverty.
In order to intensify efforts to reduce extreme poverty, the Government has issued Presidential Instruction Number 4 of 2022 on the Acceleration of Extreme Poverty Reduction. In that regard, infrastructure development is one of the efforts of Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing to support the goal.
In the meantime, Head of the Public Works Ministry’s National Highway Construction Agency (BBPJN) for North Sumatra, Brawijaya, said that his office will construct 14 km of road in 2023. The road will be part of Nias Ring Road which will connect cities and regencies in the island.
“In addition, we will also work on roads connecting Gunungsitoli City and West Nias as well as Lahomi and Sirombu. These are provincial roads,” he added. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RAS/MMB)
