As part of his working visit to Central Java province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Tuesday (30/6) inspected the construction progress of an irrigation system in Ketanggan village, Gringsing sub-district, Batang regency.

The construction project is carried out by adopting labor-intensive scheme.

The project is part of the program to improve the irrigation system in the province. The improvement is carried out by revamping and rehabilitating irrigation networks.

The program is also expected to maintain the purchasing power of the people affected by the ongoing pandemic by among others empowering the local Water User Farmers Association (P3A) namely the Ketanggan Farmers Group.

The 200-meter irrigation channel will provide water in an area of approximately 36 hectares and bring benefit to around 100 households.

The Government set aside a budget of Rp195 million sourced from the 2020 State Budget to fund the project, which is expected to complete within 100 days and provide employment for around 50 people. (BPMI/EN)
