President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (08/3) inspected Greater Jakarta light rail transit (LRT) to ensure system performancebefore the LRT service is officially launched, especially in terms of security and safety.

“It’s best not to rush into operating right away. However, the focus should be on prioritizing the system, security, and safety at all time,” the President said at Dukuh Atas station, Jakarta.

During the test ride from Harjamukti station to Dukuh Atas station, the President praised its comfort and convenience.

“I have also taken a test ride for the LRT service from Harjamukti station in Cibubur to Cawang, and Dukuh Atas as well. It was comfortable and alhamdulillah everything went smoothly,” the President said.

According to the President, there were still several reasonable things to be improved, considering that it is Indonesia’s first foray into LRT, as well as the integration of other transit modes like mass rapid transit (MRT) and fast train.

“There must be some minor imperfections to be evaluated. That is totally normal. Do not assume it will be operational right away, and everything will be perfect. No. There will definitely be system improvements or other technical improvements,” he said.

On that occasion, the President expressed hope that the LRT service will increase the integration of transportation modes in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.

“Dukuh Atas station will serve as the hub for MRT, commuter lines, airport trains, and TransJakarta buses. Basically, the station is set to become the central point for all transportation modes in Jakarta,” the President remarked. (DND/UN) (RIF/LW)
