President Jokowi Inspects Kitchenware Factory in Sidoarjo
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (12/27) inspected Unit 1 of kitchenware factory PT Maspion in Sidoarjo regency, East Java province.
During the visit, the President lauded PT Maspion for maintaining domestic production amid intense market competition.
“I give PT Maspion two thumbs up for their ability—I am pleased that their products spread in the domestic market,” he said, while urging PT Maspion to continue the effort so that the domestic market is not dominated by imported products.
“Do not let our domestic market be dominated by imported products—foreign products,” he added.
The President also expressed gratitude to PT Maspion for taking positive measures by exporting some of their products while still maintaining their products for domestic market.
“We shouldn’t only focus on exporting and let our domestic market dominated by other countries—by companies from other countries. That’s what we have to avoid,” he stressed.
On that occasion, President Jokowi also prasied the good working relationship between the employees and the management at PT Maspion, while underscoring that this positive relationship is one of the factors contributing to the company’s success.
After inspecting the factory, the Head of State was seen seated among the employees, enjoying lunch together.
Desiana, one of the employees, expressed her joy at having the opportunity to have lunch with President Jokowi.
“I was really happy. I was feeling hungry at first, but when I saw the President arrive, I felt full, and even fuller after having lunch,” she said.
Desiana also expressed hope that the Government can continue promoting the use of domestic production and enhancing national trade sector in the future.
“I hope Mr. President can further improve trade in Indonesia, especially in terms of imports and exports,” she remarked. (AP/EP) (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat)
