President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, on Thursday (10/6), inspected mass COVID-19 vaccination at the Pelindo II – Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta. The vaccination targets the maritime communities such as port workers, loading-unloading workers, drivers and the assistants, as well as other public servants at the port.

“This morning, I visited Tanjung Priok Port. We know that this is the largest and busiest port in indonesia, serving passenger ships as well as domestic and international cargo ships. It also serves as a very vital transportation infrastucture in distributing logistics in the country,” the President said in a press conference.

As the largest and busiest port in the country, the President stated that the port has a very high level of mobility and interaction. Consequently, it poses a higher risk of COVID-19 transmission.

“We know that here, the mobility of people, the mobility of goods is very high and the possibility of contracting COVID-19 is also very high, because of both interactions with ship passengers and crew members of the ship,” he said.

Therefore, President Jokowi expressed hope that the mass vaccination, which targets 1,500 people, can provide protection for the maritime communities at the port. “We hope that by having these workers vaccinated, they can be protected from COVID-19,” he said. (TGH/UN) (FI/MUR)
